Cloud PBX Phones for Business

Before we can talk about a cloud PBX, first we must define what is a PBX in the first place.  PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, and at the core it consists of the system that lets a business have internal extensions, transfer calls between those extensions, and conference calling.  Once upon a time, businesses had a great deal of copper wire all running into large central boards in a telecom room somewhere to provide the PBX for the company’s office building. Employees were tied to their desks, because the copper wire couldn’t easily be re-routed.

When It All Changed

Then the Internet happened, and some genius somewhere said hey, a phone call is only a kind of data, right? So it can maybe run over the Internet instead of on these copper lines, right? So, Voice over Internet Protocol gained prominence fairly quickly.

Right after that, some genius asked whether the Private Branch Exchange could maybe run through software definitions within a program instead of physical copper wires connecting through a board. It worked so much better that the tech took off like a rocket.  Suddenly, it was easy to move people around from desk to desk in an office, considering that extensions could be re-routed within the building at the click of a mouse.

The Inevitable Result: Cloud PBX

Software based PBX still didn’t solve the problem of large machines needing space within offices.  Sure, extensions could be turned on and off, location of the extension could easily change, a whole lot became faster and smoother with programmed PBX. However, the software still had to run on large computers which required IT personnel, putting them outside the reach of small and medium businesses.

And then some other genius got the notion of hosting the software on a remote server, a huge computer that didn’t have to be inside the business’s building.  Why not? Cloud computing was taking off, we knew we could secure the connections over large data lines.  And, if the software defining the company’s phone system could “live” on a geographically distant computer, why limit to just one company?

And with that, Cloud PBX opened up full business functionality to small and medium businesses.  We here at NoContractVoIP created an entire network of large servers to host telecom networks for a multitude of smaller businesses. By using our data centers, companies enjoy scalable services with guaranteed updates for a set, affordable price. We can afford to provide autoattendants, hold music, call hunting groups, and voicemail to email complimentary with each client account.

Finally, every business has access to the full power of modern business telecom.
